The lightweight Trinity Desktop Environment (TDE), a continuation of the classic KDE 3.5 desktop designed for users who appreciate traditional layouts without the heavy footprint of modern desktop shells, has released version 14.1.6, the sixth maintenance update in the R14.1 series, for anyone in 2026 looking to revisit that classic early-2000s KDE desktop experience.
In R14.1.6, Konqueror introduces a “Go to Desktop” action, KSnapshot supports drag-and-drop for snapshots, KCharSelect offers improved navigation, and Kicker adds a 3D border option.

Keyboard layout handling is improved, with KXKB adding compatibility and new currency sign options. Additionally, tdeio_iso now supports xz archives, tdebase updates its search engines, and the desktop features refreshed TDE-branded icons, images, and artwork.
This release also includes key compatibility updates, with TDE R14.1.6 now supporting newer Poppler versions, including 26.04, adding FFmpeg 8.0 support in akode, and binutils 2.46 support in libr. Plus, the ktimemon Kicker applet now supports NetBSD.
The release also includes several bug fixes. It resolves a KDesktop startup crash, corrects tiling for maximized windows in the Twin window manager, addresses multiple opacity issues in Twin, and improves compton-tde startup so a reboot is no longer needed after changes.
On top of that, the update resolves issues in several applications and components. KMail now correctly verifies signatures in encrypted messages, KPDF receives crash fixes for session exit and fullscreen startup, KDF properly handles drives of 2 TB or larger, Ark improves date format detection, and TDM starts a D-Bus session using a more robust Xsession script.
A few features have been removed. The Twin option for applying translucency only to window decorations is no longer available, and the “Flying Konqi” wallpaper has been removed from tdeartwork.
For distributions, TDE R14.1.6 adds Debian loong64 architecture support for Forky/Sid, removes Ubuntu 18.04 “Bionic” packaging, and introduces support for Ubuntu 26.04 LTS “Resolute Raccoon.” Packages are available for Debian, Ubuntu, Devuan, Raspbian, Arch, RHEL/CentOS, Fedora, openSUSE, Mageia, and PCLinuxOS. Live images are also expected.
