AerynOS, an atomic-update-based Linux distro currently in alpha, has released its May update, featuring major package refreshes, multiple Linux kernel updates, new desktop stack versions, graphics improvements, developer tooling changes, and several new packages.
The project reports that four kernel updates were released in quick succession due to security disclosures. Consequently, AerynOS advanced from Linux 7.0.7 to 7.0.10 within two weeks. The update provides Linux 7.0.10 for both stable and gaming kernels, as well as Linux 6.18.33 LTS.
This release also updates the desktop environment. COSMIC DE is now at version 1.0.13, and KDE Plasma has been upgraded to 6.6.5. Additionally, Qt 6.11.1 and the necessary KDE stack rebuilds are included.
For graphics, AerynOS updates the Vulkan stack to version 1.4.350 and upgrades Mesa.
Additional updates include Firefox 151, LLVM 22.1.6, PipeWire 1.6.5, Wine 11.9, pnpm 11.1.3, shadow 4.19.4, linux-firmware 20260519, intel-compute-runtime 26.18.38308.1, and intel-graphics-compiler 2.34.4.
Gaming updates feature Heroic Game Launcher 2.22 and Ludusavi 0.31, a tool for backing up PC game saves. Other updated packages include Discord 1.0.139, foot 1.27.0, Kitty 0.47, mangowm 0.13.1, Signal Desktop 8.11, Docker 29.5.1, Fastfetch 2.63.1, fzf 0.73.0, Haruna 1.8.1, Syncthing 2.1, Tailscale 1.98.3, Zed 1.3.6, and Zellij 0.44.3.
Several Wayland and shell-related components were also updated. These include Brush 0.4, a Bash-compatible shell written in Rust; ewwii 0.7 for custom window manager components; ironbar 0.19 for Wayland window managers; and oxidize 0.3.3, a theme switcher for AerynOS Wayland window managers.
Additionally, the update notes that gVim now uses GTK4, and strace 7.0 adds support for colored output.
AerynOS has also added several new packages to its repositories, including Cinny Desktop 4.12.1, Dolphin Plugins 26.04.1, Evince 48.4, gst-thumbnailers 1.0.0, KDE ISO Image Writer 26.04.1, and Sushi 50.0, the GNOME file preview tool for Nautilus.
