Wine 10.15 Released with Unicode 17 Support

Wine 10.15 adds Unicode 17, Zip64 support, and fixes 16 bugs, including issues with Steam, Sims 2, CapCut, and Visual Studio 2005.

The Wine Project, a compatibility layer renowned for enabling Linux and macOS users to run Windows applications, has officially released version 10.15 as the fifteenth maintenance update to the stable 10.x series.

One of the main highlights is that Wine’s Unicode character tables have been updated to version 17.0.0, keeping it in line with the latest Unicode standard. On top of that, packaging services now support Zip64, which helps when dealing with larger archives.

As usual, the release also comes with bug fixes—16 in total. Some of these address long-standing issues, such as Steam failing to launch, Sims 2 black-screen problems when using older Nvidia drivers, and crashes in CapCut.

Plus, there’s also a fix for a regression in Visual Studio 2005, plus patches for Wayland and X11 cursor handling.

Other fixes include improvements for command-line parsing in cmd, better handling when AVX isn’t available, and a resource leak fix in Wayland cursor handling. In short, it’s a typical development snapshot, but one that clears up some issues people have been having.
