NVIDIA has released its 620.70.06 graphics driver for Linux, the first update in the new R620 driver series.
One notable change is improved explicit synchronization performance in high-frame-rate benchmarks on Wayland, which coordinates how rendered frames pass between applications, the graphics driver, and the compositor, making it key to smooth rendering on modern Linux desktops.
Another Wayland-related fix addresses screen corruption and flickering in Vulkan applications on multi-GPU systems when the __VK_ENABLE_DEVICE_GROUPS environment variable is enabled, resolving display issues affecting configurations using Vulkan device groups.

NVIDIA has also expanded support for its graphics on-screen display indicator, enabled through __GL_SHOW_GRAPHICS_OSD. The indicator now works across all Vulkan backends, including Wayland and direct-to-display configurations.
Linux gamers get several fixes. The driver resolves a regression introduced in the R595 series that affected Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Additionally, NVIDIA addressed intermittent crashes in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth when using VKD3D-Proton descriptor heaps.
Finally, VKD3D-Proton translates Direct3D 12 calls into Vulkan, allowing Windows games that rely on Microsoft’s graphics API to run on Linux through compatibility tools such as Proton.
