Kdenlive 24.08.1 Resolves Playback Issues

Kdenlive open-source video editor releases version 24.08.1 with important fixes for playback and rendering.

Exactly two weeks after the previous 24.08 release, Kdenlive has just rolled out version 24.08.1, addressing recent playback and rendering regressions, alongside a wide array of bug fixes. Here they are.

What’s New in Kdenlive 24.08.1

One of the key fixes in this release resolves an issue with reassigning timecode to project clips. Users will also notice improved stability when performing undo and redo actions on single selection moves, reducing the likelihood of unexpected crashes.

Another noteworthy improvement in Kdenlive 24.08.1 is the handling of transitions. Dragging transitions to a clip cut now correctly creates a mix, streamlining the editing process. The multiple selection feature, which was previously broken, has also been fixed, allowing users to select multiple items without any hiccups.

Apart from those, the other more noticeable bug fixes include:

  • Clip Offset Visibility: Clip offsets now appear correctly upon selection in the timeline, making it easier to adjust and synchronize clips.
  • Effects in Sequences: Bin clips with disabled effects will retain those settings when added to new sequences, ensuring consistency across your projects.
  • High Zoom Resizing: Fixed an issue where a keyframe at the last frame prevented resizing the clip when highly zoomed in.
  • Effects and Compositions List: Adjusted the list size to fix layout issues.
  • Composition Selection: Improved the ability to select compositions within the timeline, enhancing workflow efficiency.
  • Rendering Guide Names: Replaced problematic characters like “:” and “?” in guide names to prevent rendering issues.

The developers have also fixed an issue where scrolling the timeline with the rubberband or dragging from the file manager could inadvertently move the last selected clip. Moreover, adding markers from project notes now places them at the correct timestamp instead of always defaulting to 00:00.

High DPI display users will notice that blurry widgets are now a thing of the past, thanks to fixes that ensure a crisper and clearer interface. The keyframe parameter activation has also been corrected, enabling it on the first click and streamlining the animation process.

Lastly, in Kdenlive 24.08.1, stability improvements have been made to the curve editor, preventing crashes when dealing with empty tracks. Additionally, rendering with separate files for each audio track now keeps the correct audio tags in the file names, preserving important metadata.

Refer to theย release announcementย for detailed information about all changes in Kdenlive 24.08.1.

Upgrading is straightforward. Visit the official Kdenlive download page and select the suitable version for your operating system. As always, the devs recommend backing up your projects before upgrading to prevent any potential data loss.
