GParted, the well-known free partition editor, has officially launched version 1.7 with various enhancements, important bug fixes, and fresh language updates.
One of the most noteworthy additions is experimental support for Bcachefs, albeit restricted to single-device file systems. Another significant improvement is the tool’s new capability to recognize NBDs (Network Block Devices), making partition management more robust for remote storage users.
To enhance safety, GParted 1.7.0 now prevents its probing process from unintentionally starting LVM Volume Groups. Thanks to this fix, users can carry out partitioning work with greater confidence, knowing their logical volumes remain untouched unless explicitly selected for modification.
Moreover, the minimum required version of libparted
has increased to 3.2. This update ensures compatibility with current libraries and allows developers to leverage advanced partitioning features, boosting performance and reliability across diverse systems.
Alongside these key changes, GParted 1.7 includes solutions to several known issues:
- Streamlined CI Pipelines
Updated continuous integration jobs for Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and Rocky Linux 8. - Improved exFAT File System Handling
Correctly reads file system usage fromexfatprogs >= 1.2.3
, ensuring accurate volume information. - Refined USB Key Serial Number Display
Fixes binary data issues related to certain USB key serial numbers. - Avoids LVM Volume Group Activation
Prevents accidental group probing, thus reducing the risk of unplanned logical volume changes. - Partition Search Stability
Addresses a hang occurring whenbtrfs-progs
is not installed.
