NVIDIA has released version 610.57 of its proprietary Linux graphics driver, the latest update in the company’s New Feature Branch.
Notable gaming fixes include a correction for STALKER 2, which could crash with VK_DEVICE_LOST errors and show Xid 31 messages when the VKD3D_CONFIG=descriptor_heap option was enabled. NVIDIA also fixed rendering corruption in Assetto Corsa EVO, a crash in Monster Hunter Wilds, and a GPU hang in Forza Horizon 6 under the same VKD3D-Proton descriptor heap configuration.
Additionally, the driver resolves hangs or graphical corruption in 007 First Light and Assassin’s Creed Origins. A regression introduced with the NVIDIA 595 series that could produce a black screen in Total War: Warhammer III has also been fixed.

Several other games could hang or show a black screen, including Crimson Desert, Elden Ring, Elden Ring Nightreign, Grounded 2, Incursion Red River, John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando, Screamer, and StarRupture. NVIDIA 610.57.04 fixes these issues as well.
Beyond gaming, the update fixes a bug that could crash the X Server during indirect GLX rendering and another that caused black screens after modesets in X11 applications using the Present extension.
Linux kernel compatibility also improves. NVIDIA fixed an issue causing black screens when switching virtual consoles on systems running Linux kernel 7.0 or newer with DRM fbdev support disabled. Another installer bug preventing DKMS kernel modules from compiling after installation via nvidia-installer has also been resolved.
For laptops and systems using runtime D3 power management, the new driver fixes a condition that could cause suspend and resume to fail. Vulkan applications also benefit from corrected display enumeration when the __VK_ENABLE_DEVICE_GROUPS=1 environment variable is set.
Another Vulkan fix addresses delayed wakeups when multiple threads wait on the same semaphore. According to NVIDIA, this issue could cause stuttering and reduced performance in affected applications.
On the OpenGL side, buffers created through glBufferStorage without storage flags will no longer be incorrectly moved from GPU memory to system memory. The release also fixes graphical corruption in the X-Plane flight simulator on NVIDIA workstation GPUs.
For a complete list of changes, visit the release notes. NVIDIA 610.57 is available now from the company’s driver download page as the latest Linux New Feature Branch release. As usual, most users are advised to wait until the updated driver reaches their Linux distribution’s official repositories rather than installing NVIDIA’s standalone .run package manually.
