Archinstall 4.2 Stops Installing X.Org Packages for Wayland Profiles

Archinstall 4.2 arrives with a security fix, switches mainline systems to nvidia-open, and stops pulling in X.Org packages for Wayland profiles.

Archinstall 4.2 has been released as the latest update to Arch Linux’s guided installer. The new version fixes an issue where encryption keyfiles could be written to an unencrypted root partition.

Beyond the security fix, Archinstall 4.2 switches mainline kernel systems to nvidia-open instead of nvidia-open-dkms, stops installing X.Org packages for Wayland profiles, adds more granular Plasma configuration, and introduces a Pacman settings submenu with options for Color and ParallelDownloads.

The release also includes a Plasma profile patch, better handling for empty mountpoint input, and a revert of multi-select Enter-key behavior to match expected operation.

For more information, see the changelog.

Archinstall 4.2 is expected to be included in the upcoming May Arch 2026.05.01 ISO. However, if you’re using an older ISO, you can easily update Archinstall (before launching it) to its latest version by running pacman -S archinstall after the ISO boots.
