SparkyLinux 2026.06 Refreshes Its GameOver, Multimedia, and Rescue Editions

SparkyLinux 2026.06 Special Editions are out, bringing refreshed GameOver, Multimedia, and Rescue ISOs based on Debian testing “Forky.”

Shortly after the regular SparkyLinux 2026.06 rolling release, the project updated its Special Editions with fresh ISO images for the GameOver, Multimedia, and Rescue Special Editions.

For those unfamiliar, these editions are purpose-built SparkyLinux variants built around the lightweight LXQt desktop. As the names suggest, GameOver targets gaming, Multimedia focuses on audio/video and creative workflows, and Rescue is designed for system recovery and maintenance.

In other words, they are not separate distros but ready-made Sparky spins with software tailored for specific needs.

The new 2026.06 Special Edition images are based on Debian testing “Forky” and include updated packages from both the Debian and Sparky testing repositories as of June 27, 2026.

Under the hood, they ship with Linux kernel 7.0.12 by default, while kernel 7.1.2 is also available from Sparky’s repositories for users who want a newer option. As expected for Sparky’s rolling line, the release also brings most of the changes introduced in the main SparkyLinux 2026.06 update.

Users get a refreshed base, newer application packages, and updated installer components. Compared with the earlier regular 2026.06 rolling release, the Special Editions include slightly newer package snapshots, such as Firefox 140.12 ESR, Thunderbird 140.12 ESR, and Calamares 3.4.3.

Existing Sparky rolling users do not need to reinstall. Keeping the system fully updated is enough to receive the latest packages. The new ISO images are mainly for fresh installations or live-session use.

The SparkyLinux 2026.06 Special Edition images are available for 64-bit systems from the project’s rolling download page. According to the download listing, ISO sizes are 4.08 GB for GameOver, 3.48 GB for Multimedia, and 1.99 GB for Rescue.
