TUXEDO Unveils Gemini 17 Gen3: A New Multicore King

TUXEDO Gemini 17—Gen3 is a powerful laptop with a Ryzen 9 and RTX 4070, a 17.3" QHD display, up to 96GB RAM, and full Linux support.

TUXEDO Computers has announced the launch of the Gemini 17 – Gen3, a formidable desktop replacement laptop that prioritizes raw power and practicality over flashy design.

At first glance, it’s clear that this isn’t your typical ultra-thin notebook meant for trendy cafes or art galleries. Instead, the Gemini 17 is all about delivering exceptional performance in a portable form factor.

TUXEDO Gemini 17 Gen3 Specs

With a robust cooling system, a spacious 17.3-inch display boasting 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, AMD’s top-tier Ryzen 9 7945HX processor, and NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card, this laptop is engineered for both work and play.

Additionally, a generous array of ports—including two USB-C and a Mini DisplayPort—ensures that connectivity is never an issue.

Under the hood, the Gemini 17 houses the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX, arguably the best processor ever featured in a TUXEDO laptop. While it’s not a brand-new CPU, its blend of performance and efficiency rivals—and often surpasses—the latest offerings from Apple and Intel.

This CPU excels in both single-core and multicore tasks while consuming less power than its competitors. For instance, Intel’s flagship Core i9-14900HX demands over 70% more power to achieve similar multicore performance.

Even Apple’s fastest mobile CPU, the M3 Max, is outperformed, with the Ryzen offering up to 8% higher performance-per-watt and 30% greater performance in all-core render workloads.

As mentioned earlier, the Gemini 17 isn’t about making a fashion statement. It features a solid, professional chassis that exudes a classic workstation vibe. Measuring just under 2.9 cm in thickness and weighing 2.8 kg, it’s not the lightest laptop around.

However, it strikes a balance by being portable enough for short to medium distances while offering a more capable cooling system than many of its slimmer counterparts.

This enhanced cooling allows for either higher performance or quieter fan operation, depending on your needs. The muted design, free from flashy LEDs, makes it suitable for professional environments.

The quiet membrane keyboard includes a full four-column numpad and features a multi-color adjustable backlight, making it comfortable even in dimly lit settings.

For those who need serious graphical horsepower, the Gemini 17 doesn’t disappoint. It comes equipped with either the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 or the RTX 4070, both operating at their highest allowed TGP performance class of 115 watts.

The laptop’s large 17.3-inch screen features a 2560 x 1440 pixels resolution, striking the optimal balance between sharpness and GPU rendering costs. With FreeSync technology and a refresh rate of up to 165 Hz, animations are buttery smooth.

Moreover, the display covers the full DCI-P3 color space—approximately 25% larger than the standard sRGB—providing an immersive experience for gaming and multimedia, as well as suitability for (semi-)professional photo editing.

Recognizing the need for a desktop replacement, the Gemini 17 offers up to 96 GB of DDR5-5200 RAM and two M.2 SSD slots that can be configured with up to 8 TB of storage. This makes it ideal for users who require extensive memory and storage capabilities.

Connectivity options are plentiful. The laptop includes:

  • 2x DisplayPort 1.4 (1 via USB-C 3.2 Gen2, 1 via Mini DisplayPort)
  • HDMI 2.1, allowing connection to up to three external monitors
  • A second USB-C port that supports charging via a 100-watt power supply
  • 2x USB-A ports and an RJ45 LAN port for data exchange
  • A 2-in-1 headphone/microphone port
  • The obligatory Kensington Lock for security

Shipping Starts Mid-October
