Shotcut 24.09 Delivers Key Fixes and User-Requested Features

Shotcut 24.09, a free cross-platform video editor, enhances video resolution and fixes bugs in audio playback.

Shotcut, a free and open-source video editing software, has released an update, v24.09, to address the glitches introduced in its previous release.

The latest update significantly improves, particularly in video handling and audio components. Thanks to the patched bugs, users experiencing frozen videos or issues while searching for certain files can now expect smoother operations.

Additionally, the Reverb audio filter, previously missing on Windows, has been restored, ensuring a richer audio editing experience.

Android users will also see a notable enhancement. The update corrects frame rate issues with videos captured through Android cameras, promoting better sync and playback quality.

Further refining the user interface and functionality, the Shotcut 24.09 video editor addresses several other concerns:

  • Timeline interactions, such as applying copied filters, have been smoothed out to avoid unintentional changes, particularly with keyframes in the Color Grading video filter.
  • The export presets for JPEGs have been corrected to display proper color settings.
  • Playback compatibility for audio-only WMA files with DTS audio has also been improved, ensuring broader file support.

Apart from the above, Shotcut 24.09 brings new features that allow text size adjustments directly from the context menu in Notes.

Introducing a Reframe video filter and corresponding export options offers users more control over video framing, which is ideal for adapting content across different platforms.

Lastly, the update brings a new warning dialog to alert users when altering significant settings like Video Mode or editing outputs, preventing unintended project alterations. The upgrade to MLT version 7.28.0 also promises improved performance and stability across the software.

Refer to the release announcement for details about the Shotcut 24.09 video editor changes.

You can download the application in the universal AppImage format, which is ready for use on any Linux distribution. Additionally, installation files for Windows and macOS are also available.
