Raspberry Pi OS June Update Lands with Linux Kernel 6.18 LTS

Raspberry Pi OS gets a June update with refreshed app icons, Labwc 0.9.7, firmware updates, bug fixes, and Linux kernel 6.18 LTS.

The Debian-based Raspberry Pi OS has received its June 2026 update, bringing desktop improvements, updated components, and bug fixes throughout the system.

A noticeable change is the updated toolbar icons in apps like LibreOffice, Geany, Xarchiver, and Eye of MATE; plus, the Recommended Software app also has a new icon.

Additionally, the update lets you use larger icons in lxpanel and adds new default touchscreen settings, improving touch input on supported screens.

Some Raspberry Pi desktop tools now use DBus to stop you from opening more than one copy at a time. This update affects pishutdown, rpcc, agnostics, bookshelf, gui-runcmd, rp-prefapps, and piclone. Labwc, the Wayland compositor for Raspberry Pi OS, has been updated to version 0.9.7.

This release also cleans up the libxml code used by Control Centre plugins and fixes several desktop bugs. These address a lockup in the Printers plugin when closing it, incorrect audio device selection in the volume plugin, better keyboard use in the Main Menu, and a missing close handler in piclone.

Finally, the update removes the python3-flask package from the default installation and adds Polish language support. Under the hood, Raspberry Pi OS now includes an updated firmware revision and Linux kernel 6.18.34 LTS.

For more information, refer to the changelog. You can download the latest version of Raspberry Pi OS from the project’s website. It continues to support a wide range of devices, including the Raspberry Pi 3B, 3B+, 3A+, 4B, 400, 5, 500, 500+, CM3, CM3+, CM4, CM4S, CM5, and the Zero 2 W.

Users can update an existing Raspberry Pi OS installation from the terminal by running sudo apt update, followed by sudo apt upgrade. However, Raspberry Pi recommends using sudo apt full-upgrade for system updates because it handles dependency changes that a regular upgrade may not apply.
