Mozilla has just unveiled Thunderbird version 142 of its widely adopted free and open-source desktop email client, now available for download.
Among the highlights, it now lets users add visual signatures to PDF attachments directly inside the client. The release also brings a new “Copy Message Link” and “Copy News Link” option in the header pane’s “More actions” menu, making it easier to share references.
On top of that, users can now copy entire folders within both local folders and mail server accounts, while a “Reset Folder Order” option has been added to the folder pane for those who want to undo custom sorting quickly.
Not everything stayed the same, though. The “Copy Message Location” option has been removed from the mail context menu, as part of Thunderbird’s ongoing effort to simplify the interface.

Regarding fixes, the list is massive. A wide range of issues have been addressed, from Fastmail calendar integration breaking due to missing OAuth settings to notification sounds ignoring the system’s do-not-disturb mode.
Linux users in particular will notice improvements, such as the close caption button now working properly when the mouse is in the screen corner, along with smoother handling of dark message mode toggles and tab navigation.
Other fixes tackle everything from English folders being created in non-English installations, to “mailto:” links failing to open on Microsoft Store installs, to contact photos in WebP format not displaying from CardDAV servers.
Performance issues also got attention, with developers resolving slow initial startup times and UI lag while messages are downloaded.
Newsgroup users will see changes as well. Folders now maintain alphabetical order by default, and Thunderbird should reconnect more reliably after a connection loss. The update also corrects problems with posting failures, incorrect folder archiving for RSS feeds, and several quirks with filtering, quoting, and message list behavior.
Finally, the release rounds things out with visual and UX improvements plus a batch of security fixes.

My task notifications have not been working since the last major upgrade, and that is on two different laptops.
