Mozilla has just unveiled Thunderbird version 139 of its widely adopted free and open-source desktop email client, now available for download.
The main highlight is that users now have greater control over notifications thanks to the newly implemented enterprise policy, which allows for granular in-app notification settings.
Additionally, productivity gets a boost with new quick-action buttons—”Mark as Read” and “Delete“—which are directly accessible from mail notifications.
In addition, to enhance user customization, Thunderbird now allows manual sorting of folders in the folder pane and adjustable row counts for Cards View via the Appearance settings.

On the bug fixes side, the Thunderbird team addressed a few critical stability issues, including crashes related to setting message headers during composition and interruptions during message copying to the Sent folder.
Plus, OAuth authentication links that previously failed to open are now functioning correctly, and access issues with attachments from specific UNC hosts have been resolved.
Further refinements have improved folder management and UI consistency. Users who experienced trouble with folders expanding unintentionally in Compact View after restarting Thunderbird will be relieved to find this issue sorted.
Other fixes ensure accurate folder message counts and correct functionality for manual folder sorting, particularly for IMAP accounts.
Lastly, Mac users have something to smile about, too, as dragging attachments directly to the desktop now works seamlessly. Visual and UX enhancements round out the update, offering a smoother and more intuitive experience.
For more information, see the announcement. Those eager to immediately download the latest Thunderbird version can do so directly from Mozilla’s server.
