Tails 6.9 Now Available with Tor and Thunderbird Updates

Tails 6.9 privacy-focused Linux distro released with the latest Tor Browser 14.0.1, Tor client 0.4.8.13, and Thunderbird 115.16.

Three weeks after its previous 6.8 release, Tails announced the release of version 6.9, which brought a host of improvements focused on keeping software up to date and addressing bugs.

Among the key updates in this release is the upgrade of Tor Browser to version 14.0.1, ensuring users have access to Tor’s latest security enhancements and features.

Additionally, the Tor client has been updated to version 0.4.8.13, which helps maintain optimal performance and privacy while using the Tor network.

For those using Tails for email, Thunderbird has also been upgraded to version 115.16, offering improved stability and features for a secure communication experience.

On the bug fixes side, the Tails development team has also fixed a significant issue related to automatic upgrades. Previously, some users faced an error stating, “The upgrade could not be downloaded,” even after the download had seemingly completed successfully. This problem has now been resolved, making the upgrade process smoother for everyone.

Automatic upgrades are available for users running Tails 6.0 or later. If you encounter issues, you can follow the instructions for a manual upgrade on the Tails website.
