Shotcut 25.08 Video Editor Arrives with Key Fixes

Shotcut 25.08 video editor update resolves issues from 25.07, fixing Gain/Volume filters, crashes, and adding BT.2020 color space support.

Shotcut, the popular open-source video editor, has released version 25.08, a maintenance update that focuses on fixing several recent issues while also introducing new color space support and export features.

This release is primarily aimed at addressing bugs that slipped into the previous 25.07 version. One of the most noticeable problems, where the Gain/Volume filter wouldn’t show its interface or keyframes, has now been resolved.

Related artifacts affecting Gain/Volume, Fade In Audio, and Fade Out Audio filters—introduced in the same update—have also been fixed.

Beyond audio, users on Fedora Linux should see a smoother experience as version 25.08 eliminates frequent crashing that had been plaguing the RPM package since 25.05.

On the visual side, Shotcut now includes proper support for the BT.2020 color space in the preview, while also correcting conversions from BT.709 to BT.2020.

Lastly, a handy addition is the option to embed markers as chapters directly from the export job context menu. This feature streamlines workflows for creators who rely on chapter markers when publishing their content online.

You can download the application in the universal AppImage format, ready for use on any Linux distribution. Additionally, installation files for Windows and macOS are also available.
