Krita, a popular open-source, cross-platform digital painting app for artists, from beginners to professionals, has just released version 5.2.10—a maintenance update focused on improving stability and performance.
With this release, users can expect a more responsive experience, thanks to enhancements in canvas panning, updates to the ruler during canvas transformations, and improved overall status bar performance.
Artists frequently working with animation will appreciate the resolved bugs related to raster layer opacity changes, which now properly clear the animation cache, and the correct scaling of animated transform masks.
Another notable fix addresses a longstanding issue with TIFF files, where repeatedly saving would inadvertently append the entire image, leading to unnecessarily large file sizes. Krita now properly truncates files upon saving.

Users who frequently resize their canvas will find the experience smoother as toggling the “preserve aspect ratio” button now correctly resets the canvas size. Additionally, developers have resolved a problematic crash that occurred when autosaving extremely large files, thereby significantly enhancing reliability for professional workflows.
Notably, version 5.2.10 introduces a default change that addresses unwanted behaviors triggered by software such as WeChat, specifically for keyboards with more than 12 function keys. Krita will now ignore any function keys higher than F12 by default. Users requiring these keys can re-enable them by making a simple edit to their kritarc configuration file.
On the compatibility front, Krita has updated the minimum supported Ubuntu version to 22.04 and dropped support for macOS 10.13, now requiring at least macOS 10.14. Additionally, Krita has updated its AppImage runtime on Linux, which may require users to update or remove older versions of AppImageLauncher to maintain compatibility.
The team behind Krita has also reaffirmed its commitment to mobile artists, noting that while Krita for ChromeOS is production-ready, its Android counterpart remains in beta and continues to be optimized specifically for tablet use.
