Three weeks after the previous 0.53.1 patch release, Hyprland, a favorite among fans of eye-pleasing tiling window compositors, has just rolled out the second maintenance update, version 0.53.2.
The main focus is entirely on bug fixes. More specifically, the update addresses a crash that could occur when unloading plugin-provided hyprctl commands and resolves multiple use-after-free bugs in the animation manager and window removal paths.
Window and workspace handling received multiple corrections in Hyprland 0.53.2, improving fullscreen behavior on special workspaces, restoring correct opacity for invisible floating windows when focused over fullscreen applications, and fixing workspace history tracking on multi-monitor setups.
Moreover, explicit workspace assignments are now tracked more reliably, preventing X11 configure events from overwriting window placement.
Configuration handling has also been hardened as the compositor no longer crashes on permission errors during config checks, and error reporting for windowrulev2 and layerrulev2 has been improved. Additional fixes correct a typo in border color rule parsing and ensure reserved desktop areas are properly cleared when destroyed.
Finally, several platform- and build-related changes are included. Startup handling has been improved for BSD systems, nixGL is now used automatically when Hyprland is built with Nix but not running on NixOS, and the hyprpm plugin manager has been re-enabled for Nix.
