Fwupd 2.0.14 Brings RHEL 9/10 Build Support, UEFI Fixes

Fwupd 2.0.14 Linux firmware update tool adds RHEL 9/10 build support, UEFI capsule fixes, and wider hardware compatibility.

Over a month after its previous 2.0.13 release, fwupd, an open-source utility designed to simplify firmware updates on Linux-based systems, has rolled out its new 2.0.14 version.

Among the new features, it can now bypass the network connectivity requirement, making it easier to run in restricted environments. The release also adds build compatibility for RHEL 9 and RHEL 10. Plugins gain the ability to read the firmware version during an update, while UEFI capsule devices can opt out of Capsule-on-Disk.

Additionally, administrators can unset HwID plugin context flags, and upgrades from an empty UEFI dbx are now supported.

On the bug fix side, the update addresses a wide range of issues. Firmware verification no longer fails due to signature time checks, and unsigned firmware no longer gets marked with an “UNKNOWN” vendor ID.

Thunderbolt retimer devices are excluded when fwupd is run in single-shot mode, and deprecated libflashrom API calls have been removed. Improvements were also made to firmware metadata generation, UF2 extension handling, Synaptics RMI initialization, and updates for DFOTA and MBIM modem devices.

Other adjustments include proper version reporting for Lexar NVMe drives, updated TPM vendor name mappings, and checksum verification in tests.

Lastly, the release extends hardware support. Newly added are Egis MoC devices, Framework QMK devices, ILITEK touch controllers, and the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 3P headset.
