Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey has announced Buzz, a new open-source group chat and collaboration platform created to bring human team members and AI agents into the same workspace.
Dorsey, also co-founder and current CEO of Block, described his new project as a platform for teams of any size, including both people and agents. He stated that the project aims to reduce Block’s reliance on Slack and GitHub by providing a model-agnostic, decentralized, and self-sovereign alternative.
AI plays a very important role in the project. Instead of treating AI tools as external assistants accessed only when needed, Buzz enables agents to participate directly in team conversations and projects. Both humans and agents can share channels, discuss work, and collaborate in a unified environment.
The platform offers standard workplace messaging features, including channels, threads, direct messages, media sharing, search, and shared workspaces. AI agents can be added as team members, enabling them to respond to messages, perform approved tasks, work with code, and collaborate with other agents.
Moreover, Buzz is model-agnostic, so teams are not limited to a single AI provider or model. Reports indicate compatibility with tools including Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, and Block’s open-source Goose agent.
Under the hood, Buzz is reportedly built around Nostr, the decentralized communication protocol commonly associated with censorship-resistant social networking, which represents activity as cryptographically signed events.
Actions performed by an agent are linked to its cryptographic identity, permissions, and activity history, providing teams with a clear record of who submitted messages, changed code, approved actions, or triggered workflows.
Teams can use a hosted version of Buzz or deploy it on their own infrastructure. The project is open source and reportedly distributed under the permissive Apache 2.0 license. Desktop applications are available for Linux, macOS, and Windows, with the source code published on GitHub.
The official website notes that Buzz is in developer preview and invites users to participate in testing. Git integration is still in its early stages, and mobile applications, additional approval controls, and other features are under development.
