VirtualBox 7.2.10 Adds Initial Linux Kernel 7.1 Support

VirtualBox 7.2.10 ships with initial Linux kernel 7.1 support, Linux host fixes, and improvements for CentOS 10 guests.

Oracle has released VirtualBox 7.2.10 as the latest maintenance update to the open-source virtualization software, bringing several Linux-related fixes, initial support for the upcoming Linux kernel 7.1, and corrections for guest boot issues affecting CentOS 10 and OS/2.

One important fix in this release addresses a problem where CentOS 10 virtual machines could fail to boot with the error message “Fatal glibc error: CPU does not support x86-64-v3.” The issue was tied to CPU feature handling inside the virtual machine, preventing affected CentOS 10 guests from starting.

VirtualBox 7.2.10 also improves compatibility for newer Linux kernels. The update adds initial support for Linux kernel 7.1, fixes kernel module build failures with the openSUSE 16.0 kernel, and includes corrections for the RHEL 9.8 kernel. On Linux hosts, Oracle fixed an issue where virtual machines could fail to start due to a kernel oops.

Linux Guest Additions received attention as well. This release adds initial support for the Extended Data Control Protocol for clipboard sharing with KDE Plasma on Wayland guests. VirtualBox 7.2.10 also includes fixes to prevent the vboxvideo kernel module from being built on Linux kernel 7.0 and newer, where it is no longer needed.

Beyond Linux, the update fixes an EFI boot problem affecting ARM virtual machines with less than 1024 MiB of RAM. USB handling was also corrected for cases where USB devices could not be attached to headless virtual machines on Apple Silicon systems running macOS 26.4.1.

Storage and networking components also received maintenance fixes. VirtualBox now correctly reports VIRTIO-SCSI devices as SSDs to guest systems. Two E1000 network emulation issues have been resolved: one triggered debug log creation, and the other prevented OS/2 guests from booting.

Finally, OS/2 Guest Additions have been fixed after a regression caused Shared Folders automount and clipboard sharing to stop working.

For more details, see the changelog. VirtualBox 7.2.10 is available now from Oracle’s official download channels.
