Mageia has announced the first beta release of its upcoming Mageia 10 Linux distribution. This follows the initial alpha release in January, with the final stable release expected in April 2026.
Mageia 10 Beta features a modernized core stack. It is built on Linux kernel 6.18 LTS and includes updated desktop environments: KDE Plasma 6.5 (yes, I know, but no version 6.6), GNOME 49, and Xfce 4.20. The release also offers refreshed applications, including LibreOffice 26.2 and Firefox ESR 140.8.
For graphics, the distribution includes Mesa 26.0, which improves support for AMD, Intel, and open-source NVIDIA (nouveau) drivers. Proprietary NVIDIA drivers are also available for users who require them.

After the version freeze, the beta received numerous fixes and updates since the alpha milestone. According to devs, the team is now focused on refining the release, resolving remaining blocker bugs, and ensuring a smooth upgrade from Mageia 9.
As with previous releases, Mageia 10 Beta is available in multiple installation formats. Users can select classical installation ISOs for 32-bit (i686) and 64-bit systems, or live images featuring KDE Plasma, GNOME, and Xfce desktop environments.
The development roadmap includes additional steps before the final release, such as a second beta with updated artwork and documentation, expanded testing, and ongoing bug fixes.
