After reaching beta in December, SuperTux, the long-running open-source 2D platform game starring Linux’s Tux mascot, has released version 0.7. The update comes four years after the previous stable version, with one of the most noticeable changes being the extensive redesign of several game worlds.
The developers have reworked environments and levels to create a more cohesive and modern gameplay experience, with improved layouts and updated visual assets throughout the game.
SuperTux 0.7 introduces new enemies and non-playable characters, expanding the variety of challenges players encounter. Some boss encounters and environmental interactions have been redesigned, adding fresh gameplay elements while maintaining the familiar platforming style the project is known for.

Gameplay mechanics have been improved, too. Tux now gains additional abilities and refined movement behaviors, making platforming more dynamic. Various tweaks and improvements have been made across levels to better balance difficulty and pacing.
On top of that, SuperTux 0.7 brings visual improvements, including updated graphics, refined animations, and refreshed tilesets used throughout the game’s environments. New music tracks and story elements have been added, helping expand the narrative side of the project.
Beyond gameplay and visual updates, the release includes several technical improvements. Support for Android has been restored, making the game playable on mobile devices again. In addition, Flatpak packages are now available, providing an easier installation method for Linux users.
The new version is available for download from the project’s website, and Linux users can also install it via Flatpak packages on Flathub or by downloading and running the AppImage version. For more details, see the official announcement.
