The Wine Project has announced Wine 11.15, the latest development release of its compatibility layer for running Windows applications and games on Linux and other Unix-like operating systems.
One main addition is support for ARM64EC builds in MinGW mode, Microsoft’s application binary interface that allows native ARM64 code to coexist with x64 components in the same application. The release also adds support for local NTLM authentication, a technology still used by many Windows applications and services.
Wine’s BCrypt implementation has been expanded with support for additional key derivation function algorithms. Another area receiving attention is WindowsCodecs, where Wine 11.15 adds more image format conversions.
Beyond these headline changes, Wine 11.15 fixes 41 bugs across a broad range of applications, games, graphics, input, and regression issues.
Among the more noticeable fixes is one addressing mouse misbehavior in Steam. Several applications that could freeze under Wine, including Mugen, Touhou 8, Final Burn Neo, and WinSCP after window resizing, are also fixed in this release.
Graphics improvements include corrections for washed-out colors in OpenGL applications and a Wayland/EGL issue that caused washed-out output from double sRGB conversion on the default framebuffer.
Wine 11.15 also fixes a Wayland problem affecting fixed-resolution 4:3 fullscreen applications, where content could appear offset with undefined padding around it.
Several regressions introduced around Wine 11.13 have also been addressed. These include crashes affecting multiple 32-bit applications, including Wine’s winecfg and regedit tools, and incorrectly sized dialogs in applications like IrfanView and WinSCP with certain DPI settings.
Gaming fixes include a crash when exiting Lemmings Revolution, rendering problems in the Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Lockdown demo, incorrect Right Shift behavior in Final Fantasy XI Online, and a launch failure in MapleStory.
On the application side, Wine 11.15 fixes older Adobe CS6 trial installers that failed to initialize, the QuickBooks Simple Start 2009 installer, WordPerfect 7 installation, KakaoTalk hangs, Pegasus crashes, and YNAB 4 reporting incorrect mouse positions.
Additional compatibility fixes cover MSXML3 behavior, Windows command-line handling, shell32, GDI+, WMI queries via PowerShell Core and Mono, OLE structured storage, console behavior, and several lower-level synchronization and architecture issues.
