Immich, an open-source self-hosted photo and video backup solution, has just released version 1.126, bringing a hearty mix of bug fixes and enhancements to the table.
First and foremost, with this release, search just got smarter. Users can now search by tag on the web and by description on both the web and mobile platforms. If you’re habitually tagging your photos or writing detailed descriptions, you should find it noticeably easier to locate specific images.
Interestingly, the team has also teased that this is merely the beginning—more powerful search functionality is on the horizon, so stay tuned.
Another noteworthy update is the revamped Places UI on the web client. Now, you can toggle a setting to group photos by country in the detailed location view. Moreover, with Immich 1.126, you can mark people as favorites, ensuring your most important folks appear first in the list.
Sharing albums has always been straightforward, but this update just makes it better. The album-sharing popup now shows all the shared links you’ve created, helping you keep track of who has access to which albums.
On top of that, you can filter for all shared links, individual shares, or album shares in the Shared Link View, making it easier to manage your content. And here’s a nice convenience: if you prefer quick navigation, you can toggle an option in “Account Settings” > “Features” to place a “Shared Link” button in the sidebar.
The devs also addressed a quirky timezone issue that occasionally caused dates to be interpreted incorrectly by JavaScript. Known as the “cursed knowledge candidate,” this fix ensures that times and dates are handled now more reliably moving forward.
In addition, numerous bug fixes have improved overall stability and user experience. These include enhanced visibility for backup cloud icons on lighter images, properly ordered “memory lane” assets and more robust OAuth profile validation.
Lastly, here are some other notable enhancements that are worth mentioning:
- Synology Exclusion Patterns: Streamlines syncing with Synology servers.
- Landscape Mode Navigation Rail (mobile): Makes navigating easier on larger screens.
- Merge Suggestion Modal: Automatically focuses on the “Yes” button to speed up decisions.
- Shared Link Filters: Offers more granularity when viewing or managing shared links.
