A month after its previous 3.6.1 release, Nitrux 3.7, codenamed โ€œub,โ€ is available for download, focusing on software updates, bug fixes, performance improvements, and enhanced hardware support.

Nitrux 3.7 Highlights

For those curious about the codename, โ€œubโ€ highlights the updated Debian-base snapshot that forms the foundation of this release. Now, to the novelties.

Under the hood, Nitrux 3.7 ships with the Linux 6.10 (Liquorix) kernel, known for its responsiveness and stability and especially popular among gamers.

In addition, several core components have been updated:

  • Firefox has been updated to version 130.0, offering improved web browsing performance and security.
  • MESA 3D Graphics Library is now at version 24.2.3, providing better graphics rendering and support.
  • Nitrux Update Tool System has been upgraded to version 2.1.7, enhancing system update processes.

Moreover, the desktop configuration has received the following tweaks:

  • Unused shortcuts have been removed from kgblobalshortcuts.
  • The default setting now uses the fcitx5 Wayland launcher for input method management.
  • The code to force restart fcitx5 has been removed from desktop-config.

On the fixes side, Nitrux 3.7 addresses several security vulnerabilities:

  • CUPS has been updated to version 2.4.10-2, which includes fixes for CVE-2024-47175. Notably, Nitrux has never included or used cups-browsed or opened port UDP:631 in any release.
  • Flatpak is now at version 1.5.10, addressing an issue when a malicious or compromised Flatpak app using persistent directories could access and write files outside of what it would otherwise have access to.
  • OpenSSL has been updated to version 3.3.2, which includes fixes for an issue in which apps performing certificate name checks may attempt to read an invalid memory address, resulting in abnormal termination of the application process.
