iXsystems released the second update in the TrueNAS SCALE 24.10 series, version 24.10.2, a robust Linux-based enterprise network-attached storage that bets on the ZFS filesystem and supports containerized applications and virtualization.
One of the most notable changes is the decision to no longer retrieve hidden zpool properties by default in py-libzfs, such as name, tname, maxblocksize, maxdnodesize, dedupditto, and dedupcached, which are now more securely managed.
For users who have migrated apps from 24.04 and experienced issues deleting them due to “dependent clones” errors, the update now introduces a Force Remove iXVolumes checkbox on app deletion.
Moreover, a new cloud backup option, “Use Absolute Paths,” has been incorporated. The update also fixes a critical loading issue with the nvidia_drm kernel module, ensuring the “/dev/dri” directory is properly populated for NVIDIA GPU availability in apps like Plex.
Continuing with the bug fixes made, the new version refines the NetBIOS name validation logic for environments with Active Directory enabled and disallows the specification of SSH credentials when using rsync mode set to MODULE, which helps enhance system security.
Additionally, the CPU widget logic has been simplified to improve reporting for systems with both performance and efficiency cores, ensuring more accurate system monitoring.
TrueNAS SCALE 24.10.2 also properly supports OCI image manifests for registries beyond Docker, removes explicit calls to the “syslog.syslog” module, and addresses an ACL Editor Group/User Search Bug. Users will also benefit from a fix that prevents infinite recursion on corrupted databases during network interface deletions and a refined FTP banner that helps prevent Reolink camera failures.
It’s worth noting that this update also now allows you to refresh cloud sync credentials even when a cloud sync task fails, fixes a lagg (bond) alert, and attempts recovery when initializing directory services.
Finally, TrueNAS SCALE 24.10.2 ensures that the extended window for spares is displayed correctly and removes stale locks before any TrueCloud Backup operation, thus enhancing overall system reliability.
