Peppermint OS Rebased on Debian 13 “Trixie” Is Now Available

The new Peppermint OS release lands with a Debian 13 "Trixie" base, XFCE desktop, Qt6 Calamares installer, and new GUI tools.

The Peppermint OS team has announced the release of its latest flagship edition, now rebased on Debian 13 “Trixie”, powered by Linux kernel 6.12 LTS and the lightweight XFCE 4.20 desktop environment.

This release comes fully 64-bit and stays close to Peppermint’s minimalist philosophy. Instead of shipping with a long list of preinstalled applications, it lets users pick only what they need through its “Suggested Packages” interface. That tool has now been reworked—it uses simple toggle switches to install or skip apps without requiring terminal interaction.

Under the hood, the Calamares installer has been upgraded to Qt6 and QML6, providing a more modern look and smoother setup experience. Plus, the Brave browser is now available directly from the Browsers category inside Suggested Packages.

There are also a few smaller changes. The system now recognizes icon themes properly in pftech, the transition message between fetching and pfetch has been removed, and hBlock 3.5.1 introduces retry options to handle interrupted operations more gracefully.

Lastly, for now, the Peppermint team hasn’t decided whether they’ll keep building 32-bit ISOs. In fact, Debian continues to provide 32-bit packages, so, according to devs, technically it’s still possible, but the decision remains open.
