Paru, the Rust-based AUR helper for Arch Linux, has been updated to version 2.2, more than a year after version 2.1, released in July 2025.
One main change is support for Pacman 7.1, ensuring compatibility with Arch Linux’s latest package manager. Paru 2.2 also introduces a MinimumReleaseAge setting to filter AUR packages by release age. Package exclusions are now supported during AUR installations, upgrades, and searches, giving more control over which packages are considered.
Package selection and search results have improved as well. A new --auto sorting option, enabled by default, uses bottom-up ordering in selection menus and top-down ordering in search results. Additionally, the paru -Ss command now displays clickable links, making it easier to access package information directly from terminal results.
For users working with custom PKGBUILD repositories, Paru 2.2 extends support to the -G operation, adds compatibility with the CleanAfter setting, and improves shell completion for package and repository names. Additionally, the new --rootchrootpkgs option allows customization of base packages installed in chroot environments.
On the reliability side, the update fixes stack-overflow crashes during PKGBUILD dependency resolution and duplicate-package errors when building split packages with -B. Other fixes address missing AUR package warnings during upgrades, conflict checking for packages built in chroot environments, and input/output redirection issues.
Package cleanup behavior has also changed. Dependency version requirements are now respected when removing unused packages with -c, and the separate -cc behavior for unused package removal has been removed. Interactive prompts now exit correctly on end-of-file or read errors.
Finally, Paru 2.2 requires Rust 1.88 or newer when compiling from source. Localization updates include a new Polish translation and improvements to existing ones, including French, Czech, Hungarian, Korean, Portuguese, Swedish, and Ukrainian.
