Opera GX, the gaming-focused web browser developed by Opera, is now officially available on Linux. This follows years of sustained demand from Linux users and marks the browser’s first release on the platform since it debuted in 2019.
Opera GX on Linux includes GX Control, a feature that lets users limit the amount of CPU, RAM, and network bandwidth the browser uses. The browser also integrates services such as Twitch and Discord directly into its sidebar, so users can monitor streams and chats without switching tabs.
In addition, Opera GX offers extensive customization through themes, sound effects, shaders, and visual modifications, letting users tailor the browsing experience to their setup.

Privacy features are built in by default. Opera GX includes ad and tracker blocking, as well as protection against cryptojacking.
An optional VPN is also available, operating under a zero-log policy that has been independently audited. According to Opera, the browser follows the same privacy model used across its products and does not collect browsing history, search queries, or user-entered data.
Opera GX is developed in Europe, with teams based in Norway and Poland, and operates under GDPR regulations. Its infrastructure is hosted in European data centers, including Iceland.
For downloads, visit Opera’s website. Installation is available via DEB and RPM packages, while Flatpak support is in development. The company states that the Linux version will receive weekly updates, with ongoing improvements shaped by community feedback.
