LibreOffice 26.8.2 Released with 35+ Bug Fixes and Improved Stability

LibreOffice 26.8.2 resolves crashes in Writer and Impress, fixes presentation audio playback, and improves support for older Microsoft Office files.

The Document Foundation has announced LibreOffice 26.8.2, the second maintenance update in the 26.8 series of its free and open-source office suite. The update fixes more than 35 reported issues, including crashes, document compatibility problems, and regressions affecting Writer, Calc, and Impress.

Starting with Writer, the release fixes a crash triggered by AutoCorrect operations inside text form fields and a freeze when opening the Character dialog for a fully selected text control. Another correction prevents rotated images from changing proportions when their anchor settings are modified.

Calc users receive a fix for a regression introduced in version 26.8.0 that caused relative sheet references to be treated as absolute when copying sheets. The update also adds support for Microsoft Web Query (.iqy) files used to import web-based data into spreadsheets.

Impress sees several multimedia-related corrections. Audio playback in presentations, including inserted MP3 files, has been fixed, addressing problems reported especially on Windows. A separate fix prevents crashes when scrolling through slides while inserted media plays.

Document compatibility has also improved. LibreOffice 26.8.2 fixes an issue that prevented certain older Microsoft Word (DOC) and PowerPoint (PPT) documents from opening, while affected Excel (XLS) files were incorrectly interpreted as plain text.

On Linux, the update corrects an issue affecting X11 sessions with the Qt6/KF6 backend where the application appeared as soffice.bin instead of its proper name. Additionally, macOS users receive a fix for a startup crash on macOS 27 and a correction for non-breaking hyphen rendering on Apple Silicon systems.

Other changes address the color picker, including incorrect layout sizing and selection behavior, right-to-left interface issues, accessibility problems in GTK3, and hyphenation-related regressions.

For more details, see the announcement. The complete list of resolved issues is available here.

LibreOffice 26.8.2 is available for download from the project’s official website. Linux users can also obtain the update through their distribution’s repositories once the updated packages become available.
