Team Kodi has just rolled out Kodi 21.2 “Omega,” the latest point release in the 21.x series. Perhaps the most noteworthy changes in this release are aimed at streamlining how Kodi handles and manages your media library.
For instance, a recent bug that prevented images in the “\season\.actors” folder from loading has been fixed. However, with this update, all actors are now saved in the “\TV Show\.actors” folder, effectively deprecating the old “\season\.actors” structure.
Moreover, movie addition performance has been restored to its previous Kodi 20 “Nexus” level, delivering faster library scans.
Video buffs will appreciate the improvements to HDR passthrough and HDR-to-SDR tone mapping on certain hardware platforms, including GL/GLES-based systems.
Additional patches address potential errors with Blu-Ray menu display, ensuring menus load more reliably. Also, if you ever found yourself juggling different HDR videos without stopping the previous one, you’ll be pleased to hear that Kodi now handles changing HDR metadata correctly.
For PVR users, the team tackled issues such as EPG searches and resume points for recordings. Plugin-provided items also see the return of essential context menu entries, and SMB browsing gets its credentials flow back on POSIX systems. Plus, the cURL library gets bumped to version 8.10.0, resolving hiccups with FTP TLS sources.
Users across Android, Linux, macOS, and Windows all benefit from specific fixes. Android users can expect a more stable experience resuming paused media and improved joystick support.
At the same time, Windows folks will be glad to hear about the fix for HDR on Windows 11 24H2 under certain conditions. Meanwhile, on Linux systems, pesky memory corruption issues involving high-quality video scalers are now a thing of the past.

Lastly, since this is a point release—rather than a major version jump—most users can install it right on top of any existing 21.x installation without any hiccups.
