KDE Gear 25.12.1 Apps Collection Rolls Out, Here’s What’s New

KDE Gear 25.12.1 bugfix update rolls out, improving stability in Dolphin, Kate, Kdenlive, and other core KDE tools.

Nearly a month after the 25.12 apps collection release, the KDE team has rolled out its first maintenance update to this series, KDE Gear 25.12.1, with a focus on resolving issues and enhancing stability.

Several widely used applications received targeted fixes. Dolphin file manager addresses session migration for users coming from older session file formats, resolving a long-standing compatibility issue.

Kate text and code editor includes multiple fixes in its Project plugin, including a fix for a crash in the tree view and improvements to project reloading behavior. Skladnik corrects an input handling issue by ignoring mouse release events at the end of drag actions.

The update also includes numerous fixes across KDE PIM components. Akonadi, a personal information management storage service, improves database handling and internal cleanup tasks, while Akregator, KDE’s RSS feed reader, fixes a system tray restoration issue.

KMail and its supporting libraries address multiple crash scenarios related to system tray interaction, message handling, and shutdown behavior, improving reliability for users who keep mail services running in the background.

Moreover, Kdenlive video editor receives extensive stability work, resolving crashes related to audio monitoring, copy-and-paste operations, project loading, and welcome screen handling.

Additional fixes improve timeline behavior, keyframe editing, monitor refresh logic, and compatibility with older project files. Elisa music player, Okular document viewer, and Koko image viewer also received smaller corrections addressing rendering, scaling, and format support issues.

Several mobile- and travel-oriented applications also benefit from ongoing maintenance. Itinerary travel assistant and Kitinerary data extraction library include a long list of fixes and compatibility updates, covering timetable sorting, reservation handling, barcode parsing, PDF extraction, and adaptations to newer Poppler APIs.

Across the broader stack, the release resolves issues in KDE Connect, Konversation IRC client, NeoChat messaging client, KWeather, Merkuro calendar and task manager, KAlarm, and other utilities, with fixes ranging from Wayland behavior improvements to configuration handling and user interface consistency.

Most KDE Gear 25.12.1 apps will soon be available on Flathub and Snap Store. Rolling release distributions can expect the app collection to be added to their respective distros’ repositories in the coming days and weeks.
