KDE Frameworks 6.24 Released with Core Library Enhancements

KDE Frameworks 6.24 is now available, with updates across core libraries, including improvements to KIO, Kirigami, and Wayland support, as well as multiple bug fixes.

One month after the 6.23 release, KDE has announced Frameworks 6.24, which expands its Qt add-on libraries and enhances functionality for developers on multiple platforms.

This release includes updates to several components. Baloo, the file indexing framework, now features improved database handling and better error recovery during extraction. The database now opens in the correct mode, and failed document entries are cleaned up upon successful indexing.

The Breeze Icons theme receives updates, with fixes to existing icons and new symbolic versions for certain applications. Extra CMake Modules introduces build system adjustments, including an option to force assertions and improved file path detection.

Much of the update focuses on internal cleanups and stability. Libraries, including KCodecs, KConfig, and KService, receive fixes for memory management, safer pointer handling, and better configuration data validation.

Several frameworks also receive functional improvements. KIO introduces enhancements to file handling and dialogs, including refined paste operations, improved timestamp precision, and updated trash handling.

Kirigami, KDE’s framework for adaptive Qt/QML user interfaces, adds new style-related APIs and furthers internal restructuring to simplify interface component implementation and documentation.

Regarding Wayland support, updates to KWindowSystem and related components improve the handling of Wayland surfaces and background effects and modernize code to use newer Qt interfaces.

Other updated frameworks include KImageFormats, which resolves image parsing and buffer issues; KTextEditor, which improves search history and file-saving; and KHolidays, which adds holiday entries for Bulgaria.

For those who prefer to build from source, the entire codebase for Frameworks 6.24 is available for download from KDE’s official website. On Linux, the recommended approach is to install binary packages from your distribution’s repositories.
