GIMP 3.2.6 is now available as the latest maintenance update to the 3.2 series, with improved performance in the Text tool and font handling, making typography work more responsive. For artists using compatible drawing tablets, GIMP 3.2.6 introduces a new Rotation input for brush dynamics.
Layer editing also improves as users can now cut an entire layer group using a selection, with GIMP applying the operation recursively to the group’s child layers. Layers must be writable, and non-raster layers must be rasterized first.
Several familiar tools have received fixes. The Crop tool no longer changes the position of vector layers, the Heal tool no longer produces a dark smudge around crop boundaries, and the Gradient tool fixes problems involving linear blending and transparent areas when using a 100% offset with the Truncate repeat mode.
The UI received many smaller refinements. MyPaint brush previews now load at full size instead of being limited to 48×48 pixels, tooltips have a maximum width to prevent oversized popups, and the Scale and Print Size dialogs automatically focus their size fields.
Linux users running KDE should notice some visual polish too. Dialogs now use server-side decorations on KDE rather than GNOME-style client-side decorations, placing their buttons at the bottom instead of in the header bar.
The macOS version is also much better integrated with the operating system. Title bars now follow the selected light or dark theme, scrollbars respect the macOS visibility preference, and GIMP now stores its caches in the standard ~/Library/Caches/ location.
There are also import and plug-in changes. Multi-page PDF files with pages of different dimensions are now imported using an image size that ensures all layers remain visible. RAW workflows have been updated, with Darktable 5.6 now the minimum supported version and newer RawTherapee releases detected correctly.
Moreover, Python Console tab completion has been fully ported to Python 3, ICO and CUR frame ordering improved during export, and PNG export now prefers an existing transparent palette index when available. TIFF loading also gains better support for Sketchbook layer modes and group layers.
Under the hood, GIMP 3.2.6 includes further preparation work for a possible future GTK 4 port, along with changes to plug-in handling, build infrastructure, and platform-specific behavior across Linux, Windows, and macOS.
