Dash to Panel v74 Is Ready for GNOME 51

Dash to Panel v74 is out, adding GNOME 51 compatibility to the popular GNOME Shell extension.

Dash to Panel v74 is now available, adding support for GNOME 51. If you haven’t used it before, Dash to Panel, as the name suggests, is a well-known GNOME Shell extension that puts the dash into the main panel.

The extension brings together app launchers, running apps, and system indicators in one place, creating a desktop layout that feels familiar to KDE Plasma or Windows users.

The v74 update is all about compatibility, with the only change being support for GNOME 51. There are no new features, visual updates, or extra fixes this time. Of course, the timing is hardly accidental, as GNOME 51 is due to be released today.

Fedora 45 Workstation will be among the first major Linux distros to ship the new desktop by default, while rolling-release ones such as Arch are also expected to make GNOME 51 available quickly once the packages land in their repositories.

Ubuntu 26.10 “Stonking Stingray”, scheduled for October 15, is another distro expected to ship during the GNOME 51 cycle, although its final desktop package set may differ from upstream GNOME.

For Dash to Panel users, v74 mainly makes it easier to upgrade to a system with GNOME 51. The extension now works with GNOME Shell versions 46 to 51, so users can keep their usual panel setup when switching to the new desktop.
