Mageia’s infrastructure is facing serious disruption. As of September 17, 2025, key services—forums, wiki, and Bugzilla—are down. The blog remains live, but the rest of the infrastructure is unresponsive.
Mageia has not yet confirmed the attack source, though system administrators suspect bot activity. In the announcement on Mageia’s blog, the team says the problem is known and that updates will follow once more information is available.
As you can see, our blogs are still up and running. However, the servers hosting most of the rest of our infrastructure, like the forums, wiki and bugzilla, are not. I assume we are under attack from bots again, but that needs to be confirmed by one of our sysadmins.
Coincidence or not, Mageia is not alone. Arch Linux has recently suffered similar problems, confirming an ongoing DDoS attack affecting its main site, forums, and the Arch User Repository. Although the issue has dragged on for weeks and now (fortunately) appears to be resolved, Arch has yet to provide an official explanation for the attacks or their origin.
Generally, open-source distributions are traditionally seen as less likely targets for large-scale attacks than mainstream commercial services. But repeated incidents at Arch and now Mageia suggest otherwise. The motives behind these attacks are not yet known.
For now, Mageia users should follow official status updates and rely on alternate sources (mirrors, cached documentation) while core services are restored.
