In preparation for version 10.10 and over a year after the 10.9.2 release, the Budgie team has rolled out version 10.9.3, a minor maintenance update that focuses on aligning the desktop with the recent changes introduced in the upcoming GNOME 49.
One of the main shifts in this GNOME release will be the deprecation of several components inside gnome-settings-daemon. To address this, Budgie now ships with its own in-tree forks covering MediaKeys, Power, and Wacom support.
These forks are designed to work alongside GNOME’s existing executables, making them co-installable and ensuring Budgie users don’t lose functionality.

In addition, Budgie 10.9.3 pulls in a range of fixes that many Linux distributions have already been applying as patches. This includes handling Mutter’s overlay-key changes, updates for libxfce4windowing’s API, and adjustments for recent Vala compiler behavior starting with version 0.56.18.
Lastly, packagers are advised to update budgie-control-center alongside this release, since it includes support for renamed schemas that tie in with these changes.
