Vivaldi Browser Unveils Revamped Design

The Vivaldi browser unveiled a sleek new look and an experimental Dashboard in its latest snapshot. Here's more on that!

Vivaldi has just released its latest browser snapshot, version 3483.4, and there’s a lot for users to get excited about. This update introduces a refreshed design, a new icon set, and an experimental Start Page Dashboard, among other enhancements.

A Fresh New Look

While software design trends come and go, sometimes a refresh is necessary to keep things looking modern and cohesive, attract more users, and cater to a broader audience.

Recognizing this, Vivaldi has introduced a more spacious interface in its latest 3483.4 snapshot. Accompanied by a new icon set and background images, the entire look and feel of the browser have been tuned and refined.

One of the most noticeable changes is the introduction of floating tabs. This new design allows for completely rounded tab shapesโ€”something that wasn’t possible before.

Additionally, the new icon set relies more on duo tones than single strokes, adding more depth and detail. Keen observers will also notice that the icons are slightly thinner, allowing for more intricacy.

However, if you prefer the classic look, Vivaldi has you covered. You can switch back to the previous interface by selecting the compact mode. Simply navigate to “Settings” > “Appearance” > “User Interface Density” and choose your preferred setting. Don’t hesitate to play around in the theme editor to find a look that suits you best.

It’s worth noting that some of the old bundled themes have been retired in this release, including 6.7 Default (Classic), Human, Blueprint, and Hot Pink. But don’t worryโ€”you can download these and many more from Vivaldi Themes.

Introducing the Dashboard

But that’s not all. Vivaldi is also rolling out a significant new feature called the Dashboard. This tool aims to give you an overview of everything happening right now, all in one place.

With eleven widgets to choose from, you can customize the Dashboard to display the information that matters most to you. This feature shines especially if you use Vivaldi’s built-in Mail, Calendar, and Feed Reader.

To enable it (currently an experimental feature), type “vivaldi://experiments” into the address bar and enable the “Start Page Dashboard” setting. After restarting the browser, you’ll find the Dashboard in the top navigation bar on the Start Page.

Keep in mind that experimental features are subject to change and may exhibit unexpected behavior. If you run into any issues, you can disable the experiment and provide feedback to the Vivaldi team.

Other Notable Updates

In addition to the design overhaul and the Dashboard, the snapshot includes several other enhancements:

  • New and Faster Sync Method: Synchronize your data more efficiently across devices.
  • Sync Web Panels: Your Web Panels can now be synced, making it easier to maintain a consistent browsing experience.
  • Manage Feed Subscriptions in Folders: Organize your feeds more effectively by grouping them into folders.
  • Mail Improvements: For better email management, a new “Jump to most recent message” button and an option to quickly change “Reply” to “Reply All” have been added.
  • Upgraded to Chromium 130.0.6723.26: Benefit from the latest performance and security enhancements.

Those interested in all the technical details can refer to the official announcement on the Vivaldi website. The latest snapshot is now available for download for Windows, Linux, and macOS platforms.
