Vivaldi Browser 7.1 Introduces Customizable Widgets

Vivaldi browser 7.1 introduces customizable widgets, tab imports, and speed dial improvements for a seamless browsing experience.

Four months after the 7.0 release introduced significant changes, Vivaldi has rolled out its first update in the 7.x series, v7.1, introducing various enhancements such as refined tab management tools and more ways to personalize your browsing experience.

Kicking things off, Vivaldi 7.1 debuts the Weather Widget, a straightforward yet powerful tool that allows you to check the current conditions without leaving your browser. It sits in Vivaldi’s Start Page Dashboard, seamlessly among your mail, calendar, feeds, and other essential tools.

If you love customizing your space, you’ll be thrilled by the new styling options for Dashboard widgets.

Vivaldi 7.1 lets you tailor the widget backgrounds and pull colors from your browser’s theme. That means you can transform your Dashboard from minimalistic and understated to bold and eye-catching—or anything in between.

  1. Background Style Options: Give each widget a fresh look with selectable background styles.
  2. Theme-Integrated Colors: Align widgets with the rest of your Vivaldi theme for a seamless aesthetic.

For anyone juggling multiple browsers—or curious about making a switch—Vivaldi’s Import Open Tabs feature is a real time-saver. It lets you transfer active tabs from another browser directly into Vivaldi in just a few clicks, so you can keep your workflow humming.

Those who rely on Speed Dials for everyday browsing will notice a more intuitive approach to adding new sites. The Add Speed Dial dialog box now streamlines the process of creating shortcuts to your must-visit pages.

Moreover, Vivaldi’s new Send Tab to Device feature allows you to send tabs from your desktop to your mobile device (or vice versa) and carry on browsing as if you never left. Everyone who frequently bounces between home, office, and on-the-go environments knows how valuable such functionality is.

Another noteworthy change is the update to default search engines. To remain free and independent, Vivaldi is partnering with privacy-focused platforms that generate revenue without sacrificing user data.

In light of this, Startpage, Ecosia, DuckDuckGo, and Qwant are the main search engine options, so your information is not tracked, profiled, or sold.

Lastly, regarding crash loops, Vivaldi 7.1’s new crash detection and recovery ensures that the browser identifies and resolves the issue quickly if your session is ever stuck in a loop.

Refer to the release announcement for more information on all the new features. The downloads are available on the project’s website.
