Over three months after its previous version, 4.6 “Convergence,” the Solus team announced the immediate availability of Solus 4.7, codenamed “Endurance,” a release emphasizing steady updates and refreshed default kernels.
Powered by Linux kernel 6.12, while an LTS 6.6 remains available for those preferring long-term support, all Solus 4.7 editions come preinstalled with cutting-edge versions of popular software:
- Thunderbird 128.6.0
- Firefox 134.0.2
- LibreOffice 24.8.4.2
Moreover, each edition includes specialized media playback applications right out of the box. The Budgie and GNOME editions ship with Rhythmbox for audio and Celluloid for video. Xfce relies on Parole for multimedia, and Plasma offers Elisa and Haruna for audio and video, respectively.
Another noteworthy development is the alternative software centers that offer ready-made Flatpak support and enhanced app descriptions via Appstream metadata.
Solus 4.7 addresses a significant pain point for some NVIDIA GPU owners. The new ISO images include firmware for a wider range of NVIDIA cards, particularly helping users with GeForce 4000 series cards who previously encountered black screens during installation.
Under the hood, Mesa has been upgraded to v24.3.3, bringing a host of graphical and performance enhancements, building on the features introduced in Mesa 24.3.
On the desktop front, the different desktop environments in Solus 4.7 received a noteworthy update. Budgie continues to refine the user experience, building on its current 10.9.x series.
The GNOME edition upgrades to GNOME 47, featuring accent colors, improved small-screen support, and hardware-accelerated screen capture. Additional updates include faster GTK rendering and redesigned open/save dialogs.
Solus 4.7 Plasma edition arrives with KDE Frameworks 6.10, KDE Gear 24.12.1, QT 6.8.1, and SDDM 0.21. Users can expect refined animations, customizable widgets, and a host of stability patches that keep the KDE ecosystem feeling sharp and efficient.
The XFCE spin ships with Xfce 4.20, introducing experimental Wayland support. If you crave a classic yet modern desktop, the updated Xfce edition brings a refreshed suite of core applications, including Thunar 4.20.1, Parole 4.18.2, and Whiskermenu 2.8.3.
Refer to the release announcement for detailed information about all changes. Users can download Solus 4.7 “Endurance” from the download section of the project’s website, choosing between all four editions (Budgie, GNOME, Plasma, and XFCE) as direct download or torrent options.
