PipeWire 1.6.6 Multimedia Framework Fixes Snap Client Audio Issue

PipeWire 1.6.6 is out with a fix for a server bug that could leave Snap clients without sound, plus filter-graph and Pulse server updates.

PipeWire, a widely used open-source multimedia server for audio and video on Linux, has released version 1.6.6 as the latest bugfix update to the 1.6 series.

The most user-visible fix in this update concerns the PulseAudio-compatible server. It fixes a server bug that could cause no sound for some Snap clients. This affects applications relying on PipeWire’s PulseAudio replacement layer, where compatibility details determine whether audio playback works.

The Pulse server also received a fix for monitor mode in pavucontrol. Another change concerns filter-graph. PipeWire 1.6.6 restores proper volume initialization when custom volume controls are used, fixing a regression in how saved or configured volume values applied.

Moreover, PipeWire 1.6.6 also changes LADSPA handling so plugins can be loaded from absolute paths when the path matches a configured LADSPA search directory.

Finally, the SPA library has received a dither fix that removes unwanted DC offset when noise shaping is used. There are also MIDI-related fixes in pw-cat, PipeWire’s command-line playback and recording utility, along with additional small corrections across the 1.6 branch.

For more details, see the changelog.

PipeWire 1.6.6 is available now from the project’s GitLab release page and source archive. Linux distributions are expected to ship it through their regular update channels.
