PeaZip 10.3 Boosts Performance with 25% Faster Startup

PeaZip 10.3 open-source file archiver optimizes startup, reducing memory use by 20%, enhances TAR handling, and more.

PeaZip, the versatile file archiver utility, has just unveiled its latest release—version 10.3, introducing many improvements such as updated theming options, better error handling for archives, and expanded file compatibility.

This update addresses automated browsing of compressed TAR archives by allowing users to set a maximum size threshold—ranging from 100 MB to “Always”—which helps avoid time-consuming operations on especially large files.

Moreover, PeaZip now better handles archives with errors or extra data, providing increased flexibility for users who frequently encounter complicated or corrupted archive files.

Interestingly, there is a new warning icon displayed in the navigation bar if the software detects potential issues, ensuring that any problems are quickly flagged and straightforward to investigate.

Beyond technical fixes, PeaZip 10.3 brings a new “Style” submenu and revamped themes. Thanks to these enhancements, users can quickly select from pre-set styles such as Minimal, Classic, Modern, or Postmodern.

The updated appearance also extends to icons, menus, and other interface elements. Notably, Linux enthusiasts benefit from the new Tux-Alt theme, which provides an alternative look and feel tailored to open-source environments.

On the practical side, the PeaZip Linux packages have been upgraded to facilitate context menu integration in Gnome and KDE, thereby improving the Qt6 version’s out-of-the-box experience. In parallel, all sources are now compiled with Lazarus 3.6 while remaining backward-compatible with the Lazarus 2.x line.

The backend has also been fine-tuned: startup times have been reduced by approximately 25%, and memory usage has been cut by 20%. These adjustments help PeaZip feel snappier and more responsive across all supported systems.

Users will also appreciate the expanded list of file formats. PeaZip 10.3 adds support for VmWare (.ova) and Minecraft (.mcaddon, .mcmeta, .mcpack, .mcproject, .mcstructure, .mctemplate, .mcworld) container file types.

Lastly, the developers have introduced clearer task progress displays when creating or extracting archives, improved handling of non-ASCII passwords, and restricted the creation of archives with characters outside supported ranges to minimize file corruption or formatting issues.
