KDE Gear 25.12.2 Apps Collection Rolls Out, Here’s What’s New

The KDE Gear 25.12.2 update addresses crashes and bugs in key apps, including Dolphin, Kdenlive, Kate, and KDE Connect.

Nearly a month after the 25.12.1 apps collection release, the KDE team has rolled out its second maintenance update to this series, KDE Gear 25.12.2, with a focus on resolving issues and enhancing stability.

Several fixes target core desktop utilities. Dolphin file manager receives multiple stability and usability improvements, including crash prevention when dragging view headers, cleanup of temporary files after loading default configurations, and refinements to sorting labels and font dialog behavior.

KDE Connect resolves file-sharing failures, improves packet size handling, adjusts LAN discovery behavior, and reduces unnecessary logging when Bluetooth support is disabled.

KAlarm resolves hangs caused by daylight saving time calculations and calendar loading at startup. Akonadi components address crashes caused by empty payloads and outdated HTML parsing. Kontact fixes unintended deletion of configuration modules when closing dialogs.

Media and creative applications receive extensive maintenance updates. Kdenlive video editor includes a large set of fixes covering crashes, audio thumbnail handling, monitor behavior, effects management, Windows and macOS issues, and UI glitches when opening projects or settings.

Elisa music player improves layout behavior and image loading reliability, while Kasts podcast app fixes startup issues, handles streaming URLs, and addresses a segmentation fault when exiting the system tray.

Other applications touched in this release include:

  • Kate Text Editor: Fixes shortcut conflicts, resolves Windows build issues, and improves document highlighting handling.
  • Okular Document Viewer: Corrects signing error conversion issues.
  • NeoChat Messaging Client: Receives numerous reliability fixes and user interface corrections.
  • Itinerary Travel Assistant and underlying KItinerary library: Improve barcode support and travel data extraction and handling.
  • KPMCore disk and partition management library: Fixes a division-by-zero crash in partition alignment logic.

Lastly, KDE Gear 25.12.2 also updates build compatibility with newer dependencies, such as Poppler and ZXing, improves documentation paths, fixes CI issues, and resolves minor bugs across KClock, Konqueror, KWave, Umbrello, and many others.

For more information, see the announcement. KDE Gear 25.12.2 apps collection tarballs can be downloaded from the source info page, with the full changelog provides a deeper dive into the update.

Most KDE Gear 25.12.2 apps will soon be available on Flathub and Snap Store. Rolling release distributions can expect the app collection to be added to their respective distros’ repositories in the coming days and weeks.
