KDE Gear 25.08.3 Apps Collection Rolls Out, Here’s What’s New

KDE Gear 25.08.3 bugfix update brings fixes and improvements for Kdenlive crashes, Dolphin’s zoom handling, Okular stability, and Kate’s editor behavior.

Nearly three months after the 25.08 apps collection release, the KDE team has rolled out its third maintenance update to this series, KDE Gear 25.08.3, with a focus on resolving issues and enhancing stability.

Among the notable updates, the video editor Kdenlive receives a series of fixes that improve its stability and rendering behavior. Notably, the release addresses issues where some images were not properly rendered in the timeline preview and crashes caused by clips with varying frame rates.

Additional fixes include improved handling of subtitles, better font dialog behavior on Linux, and recognition for .svg files as valid video clip inputs.

The zoom reset feature now correctly returns to the user-defined default level, and split-view behavior has been improved for smoother resizing. A bug involving folder creation in selected directories was reverted to restore correct operation, ensuring a more intuitive file management experience.

The Kate text editor includes a wide set of quality-of-life improvements. This update fixes issues where the context toolview could steal focus and where focus was not properly returned to the last widget after canceling QuickOpen. Enhancements to LSP integration ensure better documentation handling and consistency in formatting.

Additionally, the editor now properly capitalizes drive letters on Windows and avoids unnecessary interruptions when reacting to view changes.

In Okular, the versatile document viewer, developers focused on improving error handling and cleaning up build scripts. Meanwhile, KDE’s messagelib received a crucial fix addressing false-positive scam detections in emails that used uppercase letters in URLs. Memory leak prevention and additional automated tests were also introduced.

Other notable updates include:

  • KWalletManager now correctly creates context menus even when the entry list is empty, preventing crashes and improving UI consistency.
  • Itinerary and KPublicTransport gain smarter travel data parsing, including refined handling for Flixbus, RyanAir, and Comboios de Portugal tickets.
  • NeoChat, KDE’s Matrix client, now displays less alarming icons when canceling verifications and improves shortcut navigation between unread rooms.
  • KGeography corrects color inaccuracies in the flags of Denmark and France.
  • Tokodon, KDE’s Mastodon client, now updates favorite and boost counters in real time when users interact with posts.
