KDE Frameworks 6.14 Is Out, Here’s What’s New

KDE Frameworks 6.14 lands with updates across libraries, including fixes for Baloo, KIO, KWallet, and enhanced support for Telegram Snap icons.

Almost a month after its previous 6.13 release, KDE announced the launch of Frameworks 6.14, expanding its collection of add-on libraries to Qt and enhancing functionality available to developers across various platforms.

In this update, the Baloo search framework now canonicalizes its working directory before executing queries, which helps avoid path‑related inconsistencies.

Meanwhile, Breeze Icons has received several refinements: a new icon for animation settings, a complete refresh of KDE Connect tray symbols, and corrections to Telegram Snap icons after an earlier mix‑up.

At the same time, KArchive addresses security and robustness by fixing a heap buffer overflow and improving ZIP handling for archives with prepended data. In parallel, KColorScheme on Windows platforms will now detect high‑contrast modes automatically, initializing palettes accordingly and removing redundant assertions.

Furthermore, KConfig and KConfigWidgets benefit from streamlined code paths—removing support for outdated Qt versions and adding QML module dependencies—while KIO’s file‑widget gains a quick‑filter bar, fixes click‑navigation quirks, and restores single‑click selection emblems.

Kirigami also sees refinements to dialog headers and smoother scrolling behavior, and KHolidays adds Good Friday for US users, plus Slovenia’s Science Day (Dan znanosti) on November 10.

For those who prefer to build from source, the entire codebase for Frameworks 6.14 is available for download from KDE’s official website. On Linux, the recommended approach is to install binary packages from your distribution’s repositories.
