Inkscape 1.4.2 Lands with Bug Fixes, Format Enhancements

Inkscape 1.4.2, an open-source vector graphics editor, is out, merging 1.4.1 with over 70 bug fixes, file import improvements, and new features.

Over a month after its previous 1.4.1 bugfix release, the beloved open-source vector graphics editor Inkscape has issued its latest version, 1.4.2, as the second update to the 1.4 series.

Right from startup, users will immediately notice the attractive new splash screen. Additionally, creative professionals and hobbyists can now enjoy initial support for importing Vectornator and Linearity Curve files, broadening the flexibility and integration of their creative workflows.

Furthermore, Inkscape 1.4.2 introduces an essential new extension for tidying up paths, simplifying the process of refining vector designs. Affinity Designer fans aren’t left out either—the import functionality for “.afdesign” files has been substantially enhanced.

The devs have also addressed stability, resolving 20 crash and freeze issues, many specifically affecting PDF imports.

But that’s not all—this update also packs over 50 bug fixes and minor enhancements. Notable improvements include smoother Boolean operations, refined layer selection, adjustments to minimal window width constraints, and restored functionality for Spray tool buttons.

Lastly, International users will appreciate the inclusion of 14 updated translations, including German, French, Japanese, Hebrew, Catalan, and more.
