Hyprland 0.56, a Wayland compositor and tiling window manager, is now available after over two months of development.
The release keeps expanding its Lua interface, adding APIs for changing workspace IDs, retrieving loaded plugins, querying keyboard states, registering and dispatching events, and managing workspaces across monitors.
Developers can now create custom live gestures with Lua, access more physical monitor information, and force immediate property updates. The new clear_crashed_lockscreen API simplifies recovery from lock screen crashes.
The release also includes a Lua REPL mode in hyprctl, giving users and developers an interactive environment for testing Lua commands and working with the compositor’s scripting interface.
Layout handling has received several additions as well. The scrolling layout gains the new fit_into_view, fit expand, and inhibit_scroll options, while the master layout now provides a focus_master_on_close setting for controlling focus behavior after closing a window.
Hyprland 0.56 also adds a disable_when_only option for group bars and a new stableid: field for window rules. Additional effects include no_auto_hdr, suppression of X11 configure events, and the ability to move windows silently to another monitor.
Support for XDG interactive dragging has also been added, enabling applications with client-side decorated title bars to participate in drag operations. Plus, the glow effect now supports gradients.
