Hyprland 0.43 Enhances Stability, New Customization Options

Hyprland 0.43 tiling Wayland compositor has been released, tackling previous bugs and introducing new configurations.

Hyprland, a favorite among fans of tiling window managers, has quickly gained a reputation as a top choice over the last year.

Recently, the software has become part of Debian’s unstable repositories, and it’s only a matter of time before it passes testing to the stable onesโ€”and deservedly so!

The polished-to-a-shine Wayland compositor enjoys active development and constantly improving features. The just-released 0.43 version is no exception.

Having now been completely independent of wlroots, this update primarily addresses numerous issues identified in the previous v0.42, including the critical and much-complained-about random crashes and problems with monitors not displaying correctly or at all.

The team reports that approximately 95% of these “monitor not on” issues have been successfully resolved in the new release. Users are, however, advised to also installย Aquamarineย 0.4.1, as some of the fixes have been implemented in this related software.

In addition to squashing bugs, Hyprland 0.43 introduces several new features that enhance user experience and system functionality.

One notable addition is the new window rule that allows windows to remain rendered even when they are not visible, thus improving performance and reliability when multitasking.

Other highlights include the exec-shutdown command for executing scripts upon exiting Hyprland, enhanced animations with new workspace configurations, and more versatile keyboard layout options with hyprctl switchxkblayout.

For those who have faced issues with the lock screen, this update offers a replacement for the dreaded “red screen of death,” providing users with helpful recovery information instead.

Moreover, Hyprland 0.43 introduces a command to disable Xwayland at runtime and a feature to synchronize the cursor theme with the system’s GSettings.
