HandBrake 1.11.2 Video Transcoder Fixes x265 Crash

HandBrake 1.11.2 video transcoder fixes a 2-pass x265 crash, resolves memory leaks, updates FFmpeg and SVT-AV1, and more.

HandBrake 1.11.2 has been released as the second maintenance update in the 1.11 series of the popular cross-platform open-source video transcoder.

The release addresses two notable video problems. First, it fixes a crash during 2-pass lossless x265 encoding. Second, it resolves a memory leak affecting 2-pass encodes with MPEG-4, MPEG-2, VP9, and FFV1.

On the audio side, HandBrake 1.11.2 updates the list of supported dither and encoder combinations and fixes the Core Audio AAC encoder’s 7.1 channel layout. Subtitle handling also receives a correction as the release fixes VobSub palette creation when using the MP4 container.

The update also refreshes key third-party components. FFmpeg has been updated to version 8.0.2 for decoding and filters, while SVT-AV1 has been updated to version 4.1.0 for AV1 video encoding.

Linux users get a small desktop integration improvement because WebM has been added to the list of supported MIME types. On macOS, the release improves handling of unsupported presets and updates the Sparkle automatic update library.

Windows users receive several fixes and refinements, including improved handling of unsupported presets, better queue low-space pause behavior, corrected automatic audio track name generation, and a fixed summary description for HDR video.

For additional details, see the changelog. HandBrake 1.11.2 is available now for Linux, macOS, and Windows.

As with previous updates, users are advised to ensure that no encoding jobs are running before upgrading, and to back up custom presets and application preferences, as they may not be compatible with newer versions. Windows users also need Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime 10.0 installed.
